Founded in 1999 by Khadija Jabiry, Baladi et danses de l’Orient: Tywalline is a group where women of all origin and surroundings are united in the same passion for Arabic dances and music. Together, they are proposing the North American public to discover the classical and folkloric dances of Egypt, Maghreb and the Middle-East. Of course, their repertory includes the traditional belly dance or baladi, but also all the Arabic folkloric dances. The many styles of Egypt (sharki, nubi, iskandarani, sayidi, fellahi, ghawazi, haggallah), Morocco (mersaoui, andalousi, chamali, ahouach, bedaoui, chaabi), de Berber dances of Algeria, the khaliji of the country of the Arabic Gulf, as well as the popular dance of Tunisia are explored by the Tywalline dancers. Since 2002, the Gazelles, a group of teen dancers, is currently working with the Tywalline. |
